One of our favourite places to visit is Algonquin Park and it was here that we saw Evening Grosbeaks for the first time. What attracted me to do this painting was the splash of colour that they can bring to a dull grey winter day. The Evening Grosbeak is part of the finch family and are predominantly northern birds, only coming down further south in the winter to find food.
