Pelicans are just one of those birds that just bring a smile to my face when I see them. They are so emblematic of the sea that the smells of the ocean and the sounds of lapping waves and gulls crying envelope your senses. While working on this painting I kept hearing the song "Dock of the Bay" by Ottis Redding playing in my head. I really liked how the warm evening sun cast shadows across the back of this pelican offering interesting highlights and shadows across the pelican's back. I hope you enjoy!
